Bengaluru-based EV maker River Mobility just rolled out the third generation of their flagship scooter – River Indie Gen 3, and it’s packed with smart, practical upgrades that truly enhance the everyday ride. The company markets it as an SUV of Scooters that’s as rugged and practical as an SUV.
Launched at an attractive ex-showroom price of around ₹1.46 lakh (with prices varying slightly by city like Delhi and Bengaluru), the Indie Gen 3 isn’t just another flashy e-scooter; it’s a dedicated workhorse. The launch also marked a big step for the company, coinciding with the opening of their first company-owned store in Delhi, signaling a major expansion across North India. River is currently operational in 34 cities and plans to hit 80 outlets by March 2026, bringing this fantastic utility scooter closer to everyone.
The biggest change in the Indie Gen 3 is the smart tech upgrade. Based on rider feedback, River has introduced a critical safety feature: Hill-Hold Assist. This means climbing steep slopes or navigating inclines in traffic just got a whole lot easier and safer. They’ve also upgraded the riding hardware with better, grippier tyres and fine-tuned the dynamics for superior handling. Inside the dashboard, the 6-inch digital display is redesigned for clearer range and charging information, complemented by a much-improved app integration that gives you real-time ride stats and customizable data points.
While the core mechanics remain reliable, they’re seriously impressive. The River Indie is powered by a robust 4 kWh battery pack, offering an impressive IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range of 161 km. Its electric motor generates a peak power of 6.7 kW (about 9.1 PS), pushing the scooter to a top speed of 90 kmph. Charging from 0-80% takes a speedy five hours.
But the real magic and the company’s unique selling proposition? The storage. The Indie boasts the largest cargo capacity in its class, featuring a massive 43-litre underseat storage and an additional 12-litre glovebox, giving you a total of 55 litres—hence the “SUV of Scooters” nickname!
