It’s a historic day for Mizoram! The state has finally been connected to the national rail network with the inauguration of its first-ever Rajdhani Express. This landmark event, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, September 13, 2025, marks a major step toward better connectivity for the Northeast.
Today, the inaugural run of the new Rajdhani Express, numbered 02057, took off from Sairang near the state capital, Aizawl, at 10:00 a.m. This special service will reach Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi on Monday. The regular weekly service is all set to begin from September 19.
Here is a video from YouTube that provides a visual overview of Mizoram’s new railway line and its features.
This new Rajdhani Express will run every Friday, leaving Sairang at 4:30 p.m. It’s a weekly service, so you’ll want to plan your trips accordingly.
The new train will cover a bunch of major stations, including key hubs like Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, Patna Junction, and Kanpur Central, before reaching Delhi. This isn’t just a new train; it’s a game-changer that will significantly reduce travel time and make it much easier for people from Mizoram to get to the rest of the country.
This launch is part of a much bigger push to boost rail infrastructure in the Northeast. The new train runs on the Bairabi-Sairang broad gauge railway line, a massive ₹8,070 crore project that was officially opened today. It was a massive engineering challenge with 48 tunnels and 55 major bridges. Alongside the Rajdhani, two other express trains were also launched: a daily service to Guwahati and a tri-weekly train to Kolkata, further connecting the region.
Other ongoing and planned railway projects in the area include a final survey for a proposed extension from Sairang to the Myanmar border, which is a major part of India’s “Act East” policy.
